Beaches Turks & Caicos-Best Family Choice

If you are looking for fun in the sun and a fabulous getaway for the whole family, I would highly recommend Beaches in Turks and Caicos.

Beaches is a privately owned Caribbean company that is an all-inclusive family resort. When I say all-inclusive, I mean all-inclusive. All meals, snacks, anytime dining, unlimited drinks, nightly entertainment, land sports, and some water sports are included. The resort is a short 15-minute transfer ride from the airport. It boasts 758 rooms and has suites nestled on 75 acres of a pristine beachfront. Beaches is known for their 5-star Global Gourmet dining and at Beaches Turks and Caicos they have 21 dining options, so there’s something for everyone’s taste buds. They have the largest Pirates Island Waterpark plus a surf simulator. This resort is broken down into villages all with a little bit of a different flare to them. The five villages are The Caribbean, known for its lush gardens along with easy access to both pool and beach. The Seaside, which hosts 1 and 2 bedroom villas and is closest to the water. The French, which is set back away from the ocean, but closer to the waterpark and has access to the zero-entry pool, a wonderful option for families with younger children. The Italian, known to be grand but intimate and it has easy access to everything including the beach, pool, and the waterpark. Lastly, the Key West Village, known for its luxurious and laid-back beach vibe.

At Beaches, they have many different room categories including Concierge and Butler Elite. These are ideal for all families. They give you extra amenities to make your getaway truly unforgettable. Turks and Caicos is one of the world’s top diving destinations and Beaches does offer PADI certification for adults and children alike. This destination would be a wonderful idea for a multi-generational trip or family reunion.

I highly recommend taking time to slow down and be with family, and I can’t think of a better place than Beaches in Turks and Caicos.

Resort Spotlight-Hyatt Zilara Rose Hall and Hyatt Ziva Rose Hall

Jamaica, the island with vibe. Located in the Caribbean Sea and the third largest island amongst the Greater Antilles, Jamaica has always been a favorite of mine. I can’t get enough of the joyful feeling and love that is given from the people of this country. For me, there is no bad day in Jamaica.

This last trip I tried the Hyatt Zilara Rose Hall, located within the realms of Montego Bay.

It is an adult-only all-inclusive resort connected to its sister family property Hyatt Ziva Rose Hall. The combined spread of the properties makes for an ideal vacation escape for families, friends, couples, and groups. In fact, during my stay there I met honeymooners, a couple destination wedding groups, anniversary couples, but the majority were birthday groups. It made for fun celebrations day and night around the pool bar and entertainment stage.

There are over 600 rooms total combined between the two properties with your choice of either a standard room or suite category. The rooms are then divided by their view of the brilliant blue waters and pristine beaches. One of the nice aspects was how the shore was protected which allowed for nice swimming access, particularly on the family side. You can be rest assured your toddlers could splash the day away without being toppled and taken by a wave. Speaking of water, all the non-motorized water sports are included and we saw many on catamarans and windsurfing given the breezy weather we were enjoying.

Both sides had spectacular pool areas and beaches for those who sun worship. And of course, service with a smile from your beach or pool butler that kept your beverages coming. However, if you wanted to venture from your chair, each pool had a swim-up bar for your imbibing pleasures as well as organized activities from the amazing Z-crew throughout the day. Jenga, bingo, line-dancing, water aerobics, trivia, and more were available for fun and getting to know the other guests. I don’t know about you, but part of the memories made on vacation are the new friends you connect with.

And I would be amiss if I didn’t tell you about the food. You are going to want or even need to partake in those daily activities or make a trip to the gym during your stay. The food was some of the best, if not the best I have had in Jamaica. Amongst the dining options were French, Italian, Asian, Brazilian, and Jamaican. It is the only resort I know that actually has a Jamaican themed restaurant. There was a main buffet restaurant open for all 3 meals offering American fare options for the less adventurous or the children. Most restaurants were sit down and no reservations were needed. There were always a variety of options available throughout the day or you could try some of the what I refer to as quick serve. We tended to choose this for lunch grabbing nachos from the nacho bar, a flat bread pizza, or making our way to the Jerk Shack for some jerk chicken. You can’t go to Jamaica and not have the jerk.

Of course each evening there was entertainment provided. Some of the pleasures we saw were a steel band, a Michael Jackson impersonator, and my favorite which I never experienced before were the synchronized swimming dancers. It was a truly spectacular show. If you are a late owl, then after the show head to the sports bar, Union Jacks. It’s open until 2am offering music, drinks, and good vibes.

If you’re looking for an all-inclusive escape that has it all to offer, then consult your travel agent about the Hyatt Zilara Rose Hall or Hyatt Ziva Rose Hall. Discover not only all that Hyatt has to offer, but all the things that make Jamaica special. Feel the vibe!

Resort Spotlight-Club Med Cancun Yucatan

Recently, I was in Cancun, Mexico for my bi-annual TESA (Travel Entrepreneur Success Academy) meeting. It is a network/coaching program for travel entrepreneurs where we spend two intense days masterminding. One of the great things about this in location meetings is we also have the opportunity to delve deep into the property we are staying at with resort inspection and trade learning to maintain any required certifications as sellers of travel.

Our meeting for this 1st half of the year was held at the beautiful Club Med Cancun Yucatan. Club Med has “come a long way baby” and is not the same party crowd you may have memories of from more than forty years in the business. Club Med established itself as the ground breaking all-inclusive vacation experience back in 1950. It is the only all-inclusive experience that is worldwide and the only company to have an all-inclusive in the United States. Today’s Club Med, while still with its French influence from its establishment, is now predominantly a family resort with nearly 75% of its business coming from this demographic of travelers.

Club Med Cancun is perfect for the families, couples, and groups.

The resort is large and spread out with basically two sides. There is a golf cart service to take you between the two areas. During my stay, we stayed in the newer section which is designated for families. The rooms were great. There are two categories: the club and the deluxe. I was fortunate to experience the deluxe, which is the higher level accommodation. The room had 2 bedrooms, a full bath with double counters, a rain head shower, and 2 1/2 baths. In the main bedroom that looks out over the balcony facing the ocean is a small living area that can be separated by drawing a curtain. The room can hold a family of 5 very comfortably. The deluxe rooms also have a mini-bar with soda and water in them.

On this side of the resort you will also find a small beach area next to a bar and restaurant (this restaurant and other areas of the resort are undergoing renovations to be completed later in the year). The beach here and on the main resort side do have beach service, so if you are like me you are in your happy place when the beach butler comes with your drink without you having to skip a beat on that bronze you’re working on. Additionally on this side, known as the Aguamarina, there is a children’s play area, mini putt putt, tennis courts, and water sports such as windsurfing, kayaking, and snorkeling.

Walking over to the main portion for the resort you will find their regular rooms as well as their 5 trident area (their top of the line), main bar, shopping area, 2 restaurants, and the pool along a beautiful stretch of white sand that is lapped by multi shades of blue water. Each day you are at the resort you can choose to participate in their theme, which is easy to keep up with by downloading their handy app. Activities go on throughout the day at the beach with fun music and games. There is a theater where entertainment is held nightly. At the farthest point of the resort, on the other side of the room buildings, is the trapeze, archery, and water skiing. Activities are available at specific times daily. I had great fun trying my hand at archery for the second time. I was not too shabby I must say with 7 or 9 arrows in the target and 2 of those in the bull’s eye— watch out Katniss Everdeen, lol.

The best way to know if this Club Med or another in their line of destinations would suite you and your family is to set up a discussion with your favorite travel professional. Not all properties are designed for all vacationers. Your travel professional can help you match the right resort to your vacation desires.

Overall, I give the Club Med Cancun Yucatan a thumbs up!

Darling Girl, When All Else Fails…Join the Circus

Why am I hanging upside down on these red silk ribbons? I’ve run away to the circus, of course.

LOL. I wish, but I did get to live a bit of a childhood fantasy this past week at the Club Med Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. The Club Med Punta Cana has a unique one of a kind experience, Creactive. Club Med has created that in conjunction with Cirque du Soleil. It is located smack in the middle of the resort where you can be the acrobat for a day or every day of your trip. The staff operating, demonstrating, and teaching the skills to vacationers are Cirque du Soleil, either past or present members.

The various apparatuses and skills are available throughout the day at different times. Children are typically scheduled in the morning hours. For us, a group of travel agents that were game for a go at the “big tent” stunts, we had a 3 pm appointment our Thursday afternoon there. I was able to try three of the main big items available in Creactive: the silk ribbons, the wall, and the trapeze.

What little girl hasn’t had dreams of being a dancer, let alone one who can swing and dangle from the air?

It was such great fun to learn three basic beginner skills on the silks. Surprisingly, you will find these ribbons are not silky and are quite uncomfortable to the foot. The tricks require putting your weight into the ribbon leg and pushing through, keeping it strong. One of the poses we did remind us of a lady on a ship’s bow, and the last one was just pure fun. We learned how to tip ourselves upside down. Given more time, I would have gladly stayed to learn more. I understand the silks have taken to the gym in some areas, and I am seeking out a class on my agenda for the upcoming year.

The second apparatus was what they called the wall. It reminds me of how they pull off stunts in movies where people look like they are fighting in the air or walking on walls. What looked so easy turned out to be the core workout of a lifetime. Who knew? I did learn the basic push, a turn and then tried my hand at walking sideways along the wall. I was amazed at how fast this wore me out and raised my cardio. Again, great fun, and I would have continued with more time.

The last event we went to was the trapeze. Here, I buried my fears of height. However, my shakes were a dead give away that I was still scared to death. I think the climb up was worse than the actual swing on the bar. I have to give kudos to the instructors, who were my spotters and safety net. They talked me through my fear, and I swung from the skies. After my last two, I must admit my strength had piddled, and I couldn’t completely pull off my trick, but I pushed through the fear and was flying high. I would definitely give this another go. I met one of the resort guests in line who had been coming every day. As he accomplished skills, they continued to teach him more difficult tricks. It was fun to watch him perform a flip in the air after a release from the bar.

Right now, Club Med Punta Cana is the only place you can get this amazing Creactive experience. The Sandpiper in Florida does have some circus stuff, but it is not to the same scale or with the unique touches that Cirque du Soleil brings. Club Med does have plans for expanding this experience among a few of its other resorts. The rumor is the next resort will be their one in France. They are a worldwide all-inclusive product. While they are not a resort for everyone, this might be the new experience you are looking to check off.

Andrea Ward-Boomerang Escapes Beach Vacation Planner

Andrea Ward is not only one of Boomerang Escapes,

veteran travel planners, but also has the special title of being my one and only sister. She officially joined my travel agency in November 2013 after our opening in May. She has become our resident expert in planning of All-Inclusive Beach Vacations.

Andrea is a mother of three young adults and currently resides in Burlington, Wisconsin. There she not only plans amazing beach vacations, but continues her role as business administrator for Harris Pet Hospital. Besides being an avid beach lover, she has an amazing love for animals and in her spare time helps out with the puppy breeding at Dale Creek Gundogs . She even fits time in to go horseback riding with her friends. Andrea says she “thrives on living!”

Much like myself, having moved around the country most of our childhood, she too developed a love of travel. Her passion….the BEACH. She said, “I use to dream of tropical resorts while sunbathing at the pool. Today, those dreams have become a reality and I now want to share my passion for white sandy beaches, warm sunny days, and cool breezes of the blue waters by planning vacations.”

Andrea took time to share two of her favorite resort experiences.

Sunscape Curacao Resort Spa & Casino (Formerly Breezes)

-Food was very good, but only 4 restaurants on site.
-Beach was clean and beautiful!
-Loved the water. It was calm and great for diving and snorkeling
-Staff was friendly and helpful. They helped me to arrange a renewal or our vows during our stay.
-The rooms were clean and the decor was bright.
-Shopping was nice in town. Safety was not an issue and I had a very positive experience.
-The colors of the town were breath taking!
-There are tons of activities at the resort, particularly a lot of water activities.

I would love to go back here and see Curacao again!

Dreams Punta Cana Resort & Spa

-Excellent variety of food with six restaurants, a buffet and a cafe!
-A very friendly staff.
-There were lots of activity including volley ball on the beach, work outs in the water or on the beach, archery, and horseback riding.
-I chose to do the horseback riding, and the experience was okay. I felt that once you left the beach area the scenery was not very appealing. As a horse owner, I probably have higher expectations of what I want from the horse and my ride.
-Dancing and other daily night life activity available.
-The beach is decent and a cool thing was you could fish right there in the ocean.
-My experience off the resort wasn’t the best. I wouldn’t recommend venturing too far. People are friendly, but the poverty level is very evident.
-The rooms were clean and decor was bright.
-Great resort to go with a group of friends! I would recommend the resort for a destination wedding!
-It has one of the longest free form pools to float in.
-I would definitely visit again.

“There is nothing better than fun in the sun!”-Andrea

Thanks to Andrea, she and Boomerang Escapes, are one of the helpful businesses that belong to “Celebrate Our Town”, a welcoming program for new homeowners to the counties of Racine, Walworth, and Kenosha, Wisconsin.
