Lisa's Laws for Living Happy
Lisa's Laws for Living Happy!
Friends, family, and clients alike have noticed one thing this year…how happy I am. I have had more people tell me how amazed they are at the energy I have and how they have never seen my smile so BIG. Honestly, they are right. Every day I am vibrating with joy, and I look forward to what lies ahead. I even asked, “Can you be too happy?” The answer is NO! As 2014 wraps up, I thought I would share my secrets for living happy.
Of course, you may be thinking she is happy because she gets to travel to beautiful places such as Australia, Turks & Caicos and French Polynesia, all of which were just visited in this last quarter. However, while escaping is truly a key component in making one happy (we all need a break in life), it really has been a change of my mindset over the course of the past two years that has created my happy state of being. Here are some of the mantras I follow:
Happiness is a choice. Each day we have choices to make. Happiness is just another choice. I wake up each morning telling myself it is going to be a good day. I choose to be happy. On days when my spirit falters I simply look to a plaque I keep on my desk that reads, “Happiness is something you decide ahead of time.” I then consciously choose to move myself from the down to the up.
Be grateful. Being grateful is the act of being thankful for what you have each day. You always have something to be thankful for. Even if it is something as simple as being thankful for being able to open your eyes to a new day.
Choices are not wrong or right. Each day we choose a path to follow. Sometimes as you go down that path you find out it wasn’t the right path for you, but it doesn’t mean it was the wrong path. Each choice either delivers a gift or a lesson in life. Learning from the lessons and choosing again keeps you strong.
Take pleasure in the small victories in life. You don’t have to conquer the world to be happy. For me, something as simple as finding a new gluten free product that I can use to transform one of my recipes for our daughter, who has Celiac Disease, is enough to put a smile on my face.
Live in the moment. Take in everything with all your senses. Feel, taste, hear, smell, touch and see the world. Be present in your surroundings and those you are interacting with. It is amazing the things you will notice. The simple realizations of the world will put a smile on your face. Something as simple as watching a dragon fly’s movements as it sits, perched atop my toe, can bring thrill.
Put yourself first. We have all heard you can’t be of any use to someone else unless you are good to yourself first. For me, that meant establishing and creating a morning routine that brought back exercising and healthy eating habits. My exercising usually consists of a speed walk at the park or an hour of cardio/weight training. Some days I do a double. I also include meditation in my day to clear the mind and make that conscious choice to be happy.
Now, none of this is to say I don’t have a bad day or bad things don’t happen to me. I just choose to see the bright side of life and move on. Life is too short to be anything but happy. Realize you have the power. You too can “Return to Your Happy Place”.
