Featherdale Wildlife Park-Get Up Close and Personal

Featherdale Wildlife Park, once a poultry farm, is now a premier spot to spend the day with some of Australia's best native animals. Located in Doonside, about t45 minute drive from he center of Sydney, this park offers an up close and personal expereience with some of Australia's animal icons such as kangaroos, wallaby and koalas.  The park is open daily from 9 to 5 except for Christmas Day.

Moments from stepping out or your car or off the bus your encounter will begin.  Often a handler will already be standing by with a rare or fun creature upon their arm.     Featherdale Wildlife Park Entrance

Then the real adventure begins as you step into the walk through area beginning with the koalas, kangaroos and wallaby.  It won't take, but moments for one of these creatures to come up and greet you and see if your hands are filled with their favorite snack. Be careful getting that snack from the refrigerator as these guys really know what to do.  In addition to feeding the wallaby and kangaroo you will be able to have a photo opt with a koala sitting in a branch.  You will be able to give its bum a little love pat, but no holding here.

Featherdale Wildlife Park is more than just the animals as they invest a significant amount of time in education.  The park has an outdoor amphitheater that holds 90 called the "Learning Burrow"  It also hosts a mobile education program that follows the school curriculum called "Wildlife Wanderer".

While Featherdale Wildlife Park makes for an amazing morning or afternoon of fun it is great to combine this experience with a trip to the Blue Mountains. The park is a nice stop enroute from Sydney to the Blue Mountains.  The two together would take you from breakfast to dinner with a nice stop for lunch along the way.  The next time you are in Sydney, be sure to include this chance to get up close and personal!
